Based from home UK, with frequent travel to Newcastle / or based from Newcastle.
Our client is an innovator in the life sciences field, working on technology to use Stem Cells in clinical studies collaborating on drug discovery, development and toxicity. They have expertise in the production of Stem cell lines, and collaboration with clients in designing and running studies. They are hiring for a Business Development Manager.
What you’ll do
You will take on responsibility for the companies’ promotion and in general be engaging in activities to ensure the business is ‘out there’, educating the markets buyers in our clients capabilities and maintaining presence. This will involve having initial priming conversations to influence key decision makers in their market, at pre-arranged meetings, conferences and phone calls.
Key contact points will be decision makers on ‘£10k to £150k’ buying decisions, in many cases Managers not Directors and a broad network will therefore be needed. You will build upon your own network in this field and curate a commercially viable network for communicating current and future technology offerings.
This will be a mix of phone, email and face to face contact, There will be travelling with this role, to clients and conferences where you can use your technical understanding and credibility to discuss the needs of the market and identify opportunities for our clients services to help.
This role will be designed to build awareness and distribute key messages into a market. While we expect this to lead ultimately to sales this is more of a role designed to prime conversations. For example a client may discuss the outline of a project with the BD Manager, for the Technical Leadership team to follow up on in more depth.
For this reason, strong communication skills and a good understanding of the Stem Cells, in vitro testing and assay products, market are essential. You will be needing to regularly hold technical conversations and communicate key details efficiently to colleagues, as well as identifying and acting on opportunities to promote the company.
This role calls for a strong technical credibility and we envisage at least 2-3 years of laboratory experience will be in the candidate’s history, in the CRO or drug discovery field ideally. You will be qualified to at least BSc level, with a strong commercial awareness of the in vitro assay space. A Toxicology background would be useful but is not essential.
Candidates may be based in Newcastle, or if working from home be prepared to spend a day or two each week in Newcastle (or more if business needs dictate). Ideally you will live near a major airport, and a driving licence is essential.
On this occasion, LiCa Scientific is acting as an employment agency.
