We are seeking a Technical Specialist - Toxicology, to work as part of an enthusiastic and dynamic team to ensure the timely service delivery of toxicological case work, in forensics.

What you’ll do:

The Technical Specialist will project manage the development of new toxicological methodology and the validation/verification of these methods in order to meet business objectives. You'll be the technical expert for a team of analysts and lead the method development within the team. 

This will involve the examination of blood, urine, hair and post-mortem specimens in order to isolate, identify and quantify alcohol (ethanol), commonly encountered illicit and abused drugs, medicinal drugs and other substances/toxins.

The main laboratory techniques this role will use will be liquid-liquid and solid phase extractions, EIA, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, HPLC-DAD and HS-GC-FID. In addition you will be using analytical software packages, in particular Analyst/MultiQuant (Sciex), ChemStation/MassHunter (Agilent) and TurboMass (Perkin Elmer), including peer review of analytical data.

Your background:

You will have extensive experience of the design of method development projects and the implementation of validation/verification studies.

Demonstrable experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory would be advantageous but is not essential.

A minimum of a degree level qualification in chemistry or related field.

Several years experience of method development and validation studies, ideally within a forensics laboratory though we will be keen to hear from those experienced in other areas i.e. pharmaceuticals, medical laboratory etc.
