Job Description

Our client is a chemical manufacturer who are seeking a Senior Research and Development Scientist. They are working with major brands in formulation and production of products related to various applications easiest categorised under the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) banner but stretching into the additives, fine chemistry, automotive and engineering chemicals markets, the Senior Research and Development Scientist will be responsible for delivery of in-excess of 1,000 products.

Summary of the Senior Research and Development Scientist role: 

Our client is intending the Senior Research and Development Scientist to have full direction of the development and manufacture of various (mainly liquid) fine chemical products. This role will apply the Senior Research and Development Scientists strong knowledge of formulation chemistry ideally from your many years spent at the bench working on complex formulations, needing formulating in a very precise way.

Good attention to detail, and accurate bench skills such as pipetting and measuring are essential in this role as will be a highly methodical and organised candidate.

This role will involve the Senior Research and Development Scientist having regular interactions with colleagues throughout the plant, in quality control, health and safety, suppliers, auditors and engineers. You will be a good communicator, comfortable handling multiple priorities, and be experienced in problem solving and providing leadership. This will see the Technical Manager role helping the wider company run efficiently as possible, and has a positive effect on your peer group. There are additional avenues for growth via new opportunities in operational improvements. 

Suggested background: 

You will be a chemist by background ideally qualified to degree level and be experienced as a formulator or similar in a leadership function, having supervised staff. Broadly, you will have had a key role in responsible areas of the business, in a decision making role and be familiar in  working under and maintaining ISO systems.
