Job Description

We are hiring for a Technical Assistant to work in a leading contract testing organisation that works with major blue chip companies and familiar household brands. They provide services across supply chain mainly focussed on delivery of expert advice. One of these fields of expertise is Microbiology where they have a role vacant for someone to work in risk assessment and training in the proficiency side.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for running training coursed and operating a microbiology proficiency scheme to look at supporting detection of common microbiological pathogen areas. Such as salmonella, listeria, yeasts and moulds as well as dairy and cereal microbiology issues. You will be working on both internal proficiency testing and running training to pass expert knowledge onto clients in this field.

  • Carry out practical microbiology duties associated with the section
  • Assist with practical and administrative duties of the Microbiology Proficiency Scheme (CMPS)
  • Provide support in setting up and demonstrating practical aspects of microbiology in training courses
  • Participate in the weekend rota (once trained) providing testing support to the Microbiology Analytical Section
  • Provide the Manager and staff with enquiry and project support as required.

 

Your background

You will be educated in biologist will skills in Microbiology, we anticipate these will arise from being an A  level/Graduate in biological sciences or equivalent, with ~two years relevant experience. You will be able to show a record of working accurately within specified time frames have good computer literacy and be an enthusiastic, proactive team player and we do need someone who is confident in their participation with external partners.
