Job Description

We are hiring for a recruitment consultant to join LiCa Scientific, at an exciting point for the business as we move up into the next phase of our growth plan. This is a permanent role.

LiCa Scientific is a recruitment agency that works primarily in the recruitment of chemistry skills, supporting companies that are involved in fine chemical, pharmaceutical or related development/manufacturing activity. Following a very successful opening three years, we require an individual who shares our passion for delivery, doing the right thing and to help us best serve our clients who are mainly in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.

What you'll do: 

You will be supporting the identification of scientists for placement into clients of LiCa Scientific. There are two main areas to the role: One will be a full recruitment role on scientific roles from laboratory up to management-level. Two, will be to keep contact with clients in the regular areas of work, that the agency provides a reliable network of potential recruits for. These candidates will be in chemistry fields or closely related fields to chemistry and there is a lot of latent demand for this out there which this role can tap into. 

You will be running proactive recruitment activities, this means interviewing prospective candidates and identifying these to colleagues in the team or directly to clients. You will find you'll build relationships with both and before long have a good network which you'll build on. You will be responsible for initial screening of CVs arriving at LiCa Scientific via email or social media, and running activities to generate further candidate interest in roles.

Additionally, you will regularly partake in activities supporting the candidates that are engaged with us, this may be attending academic events to help students approach the job market, providing free CV advice or interview coaching or carrying out post interview reviews with potential recruits. The role will evolve to more responsibilities as you develop. 

There will be various ad-hoc duties associated with the role i.e. you will fully handle client accounts and regularly head out to meetings. We work internationally so this role will require some business travel within Europe and the USA, again this is around your own commitments and only a few times each year. You do not have to come with us on these trips, but if you do you'll soon work out the best clients are found with a drink in your hand. Most clients are UK based. We want anyone joining here to enjoy it on day one - but also grow with the role and progress, year over year.

Your working hours will be based on what you want within reason. This is a full time role however the flexibility will be there. I run this business an am not in the office every day. Basically the team here are all professionals who can be trusted, and wanting success. This role will initially be based at the office, though LiCa Scientific is very a flexible company in terms of working from the office or from home once training is completed and probation passed.

This business was founded on a work:life balance intention and part of it's success is that we work in a way that minimises the stress of fitting in a school run, after school classes etc... though this would apply just as much to a semi professional athlete, musician, part time actor, or anyone else needing that flexibility in their situation, to get on with work and life at the same time successfully.

In practice we find this means people are happy to cover what is needed when it's needed with give and take on the hours worked. From a commercial standpoint it works very well, leading to a competitive salary, generous bonus (no threshold, uncapped), generous pension, free parking, mobile phone and laptop, as well as access licenses for the leading job boards. Training is delivered via the best in the business we can identify - the Recruitment and Employment Confederation currently - you’ll also have a personal budget per year for your training and development in year 2 and then into perpetuity. We also have regular training in areas like PR, branding, marketing and general coaching from ad-hoc external providers on a regular basis in the boardroom at our offices (which is also a UKSPA site). 

All of the above is designed to put that structure in place to drive success, however we're a small business and for all this, we do need a self-starter. You will have to be naturally a driven person… and we do need someone with a good sense of curiosity about how they can improve, or something new they can do, and the nature to then go and try it out.

Your background: 

You will need an understanding of chemistry on some level, to work in this role ideally educated to BTEC, A-Level or equivalent, some have degree's in this industry some don't - we just need that ability to understand concepts like different laboratory techniques or skill sets in a broad way. Maybe a laboratory or scientific recruitment/HR background will serve you well. You will be a good communicator, with good IT skills. 

We need someone who is a salesperson at heart, this doesn't mean on the phone all day - it does mean thinking in terms of what customers need and priding yourself on a fantastic level of service. Constantly challenging on how to grow the business, what proactive activities could happen to help improve what we do and as a result improve client and candidate experience.
