We are hiring for a research and development chemist with a strong synthetic chemistry experience to help our client grow and develop their product lines. This is a role with potential for progression on to a senior level function depending on experience and performance in a genuinely innovative company with an exciting product line and global potential.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for discovery and development of chemical products used in the company’s product portfolio. Individual projects related to this will be around discovery of how to make a new chemical required, or improvement / efficiencies in making chemistries. This is a wholly laboratory based role using the techniques and glassware you will be familiar with as a synthetic chemist, in reactions up to 100g but mainly at the small / ‘discovery’ scale.
Your day to day role will involve:
- Planning, route design and carrying out synthesis
- Characterisation of materials produced
- Product formulation
- Testing of the product
You will need to be qualified in chemistry to PhD level, or a BSc / MSc level qualified individual plus experience of working in industry. Broadly we expect that you will have chemicals synthesis laboratory experience, a broad understanding of organic chemistry reactions and ideally a background or knowledge of inorganic reactions also.

Our client is making an interesting and engaging product that is genuinely innovative that should highly interest chemists to want to understand and learn more about.
This role is a fantastic work environment for such an individual with this drive, you will be trusted as a trained chemist to get on with your job in delivering these chemistries required by the business. How you go about this is up to you and prone to trial/error and finding solutions to sometimes complex problems.
You will be a good communicator and understand that for the benefit of collaborations / KTP’s that electronic records will be essential in some cases and written / verbal communication in others. We are seeking someone that can change communication modes to suit different parts of the business, internal and external.
You will need to have a driving lisence / other own transportation for this role due to client location.
