Salary circa £30,000
We are recruiting for a Research Chemist to work in a global fine chemicals company. You will be PhD level in synthetic chemistry, (polymers chemistry ideally) and undertake scientific work in the research of new products for the business.
What you’ll do
You will be working on projects related to synthesis of additives for a variety of industries from fuels to personal care to coatings. A lot of chemists work for this company, and the specific team you’ll work in will focus on the polymer’s product areas, carrying out mainly polymer synthesis.
This specifically branches into acrylate, natural polymer, sugars, esters, and monomer research. Broadly, you will be looking into making structural changes to these molecules to produce commercially advantageous functions. This will be alongside literature research, patent searches and an awareness of the field (that will develop and develop as time in-post goes on) to come up with new solutions for the business.
You will work closely with a characterisation / analysis team, to look at the chemistry in-depth to look at the specific properties and closely liaise on next steps in the project to get to the performance level required of the specific additive, for example, that you are researching.
You will identify and suggest new product areas to the management that can be looked into, and use your ability to solve chemical problems and focus on deliverable, scalable and economically viable results for the business. You will be synthesising at the multi gram to kilo scale.
We are seeking someone with a PhD and this can be inexperienced in industry so someone who has recently completed their PhD research perhaps. Equally we are happy to consider people with experience of working in business on similar projects to the above, with a strong polymers synthesis background.
As time goes on you will be working with customers so communication and business skills will be good to see, and we are seeking someone whose career-aim is to work in a commercial area in R&D / NPD, who can research the next generation of hopefully blockbuster products! Projects here can take several years so it’s key that peoples motivations are aligned to this role as this will enable all to get the best out of this opportunity.
On this occasion, LiCa Scientific is acting as an Employment Agency.
