Process Safety Chemist / Engineer
Based in Manchester
Competitive salary + package
This role will undertake safety evaluation of new chemistry processes, to provide safety oversight for scale-up.
LiCa Scientific is working with a multinational chemical company in Manchester that is a specialist in fine chemical synthesis. They synthesis chemistry at scales from hundreds of grams up to Chemical Plant (Reactor Vessel scales) and this involves several safety assessments along the way going through the various steps, from one scale to another.
The Process Safety Chemist / Engineer will play a key part in that activity.
What you’ll do:
You will primarily work in collaborations across Process Research and Development, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Plant.
At the bench, you will be replicating the reaction routes and using Calorimeters (Accelerator Rate Calorimeter and Reaction Calorimeter) and Mettler Toledo DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter).
This will lead to your providing safety reports and process risk assessments to document the scale up and production of these reactions. This forms the basis of safety for scale up and allows for the chemistry to be adapted to Production and executed at plant scale.
There is an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Team which provides oversight to this role via general directions and specific instructions. You will be interacting regularly with the EHS Team. Additionally you will be working on Capital Expenditure Projects (CAPEX) and using AutoCAD to support scale up projects.
Broadly you will provide safety and engineering principles to the working practices.
We are keen to review candidates from a range of backgrounds. We encourage extending interest if you are a graduate in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (with Engineering knowledge) or have several years experience in a similar field.
Experience with the activities above is naturally advantageous and we are happy to consider a broad range of experience profiles, from new graduate to those with many years of experience. The salary authorised for the role is again broad to cover this (hence we have not provided a specific number on this ad as to not put one group off over another).
Experience of working to ISO 14001, 22716 or 45001 will be advantageous. As will be experience of process risk assessments, DSC and Calorimetry.
As always, we are available anytime in working hours for any questions you may have.
On this occasion, LiCa Scientific is acting as an employment agency.
