We are hiring for a formulation chemist to work for an innovative, growing organisation in the North West of the UK. This job is permanent and has a salary of up to £30,000
What you'll do:
Broadly this role will develop new formulations and technology in line with technical briefs from internal and external clients. This is a hands-on bench based role in the case of many/most of its duties. This will involve developing technology for new patents and test methods to support claims and compliance with regulatory standards.
You will be involved in the development of new formulations and associated conversion processes, preparation of formulation batches, and creating batch sheets
Also, you will be providing input into the filing of new patents and the defence or opposition of existing ones. Required of you will be attendance and input into production trials including troubleshooting, and input into the development of Technical Project Briefs.
You will be identifying suitable raw materials and technologies to be used in formulations, designing and conducting appropriate tests for Product Stability and the Physical-Chemical properties of Products, prototypes, mixes and raw materials. Commissioning and managing Physical-Chemical testing done at third parties.
In addition, you will be maintaining a network of suppliers and collaborators with regular dialogue. Supporting the sales and marketing team by providing technical responses to queries raised by customers and other external bodies; and training and supervising new members of the R&D team.
You will be a graduate / MChem /PhD in a relevant field with experience in industry of developing formulations. Ideally this will be from personal care, cosmetics, household goods – FMCG – or potentially pharmaceuticals. You will be knowledgeable of biocides or a similar area, and ideally have knowledge of raw materials, ingredients and be keeping yourself at the vanguard of developments in your industry i.e. reading trade publications to stay ahead of new technologies and raw materials. You will be able to execute your skills across a range of product forms (i.e. gels, foams, sprays).
