We are working on behalf of a chemicals company in Runcorn who are looking for Chief Chemist. They are a company who were established early in the last century and have a strong product offering in coatings, tapes and medical devices.
What you’ll do:
As Chief Chemist you will be responsible for delivering on any activity that calls for a chemical solution. This will mean working in formulation of new products, ingredient substitution, quality testing, troubleshooting and weekly reporting of data to the Managing Director.
Your colleagues hold excellent specific product knowledge and you will have regular interactions with this team to meet client demands, solve problems as the arise and pass on information to the company leadership. Our client has been operating in this industry for decades so this company has a reputation for quality and delivery that the Chief Chemist will be continuing.
In addition to the formulation, testing and oversight of chemistry you will be setting up a new laboratory area, you will undertake research projects to develop products to compete in new areas of the market. You will have access to small scale production to trial new products as well as a network of laboratories to provide data as required on new products in development.
Our client has a range of physical and analytical testing methods that the jobholder will use. This will mainly involve physical testing, so tensile strength, viscometer, thickness and weight. You will use highly accurate measurement equipment for example micrometers and accurate scales to measure to fractions of millimetre and gram and provide data on coating thickness and GSM.
Their main product areas are in film technology, medical polymers and speciality labelling amongst others.
We are seeking a graduate in Chemistry, you will be ‘business minded’ by which we mean maintaining a focus on the goals of the organisation and the best contribution that can be made to these. Proactivity will be key, the ability to spot what needs to be done, and either do it personally or ensure that it’s done, will be important.
The company is constantly engaged in production and the main responsibilities of the role will involve you being able to formulate, understand chemical relationships, maintain a strong product knowledge (as well as chemicals knowledge, expectation for the role holder to be at the forefront of this industry and it’s developments).
It goes without saying that a good general chemistry knowledge is essential. Degree qualification plus experience of the above, or PhD qualification. We are seeking a general expert who can turn their hand to various areas of chemistry and product development and quickly bring themselves up to speed on the requirements of a task.
