We are hiring for a Chemical Waste Officer to work in a fine chemicals company in Manchester. This is a permanent role that will play a crucial part in their operations and provide engaging challenges to the successful candidate.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for the safe disposal of chemical waste produced by our client, who are engaged in the production of fine chemicals for mainly pharmaceutical applications. This leads to the production of several Intermediate Bulk Containers’ (IBC’s) per week of waste chemicals, that are needing dealing with in terms of their removal from site by waste disposal partners. You will be responsible for coordinating this activity.
This will involved having oversight of what waste is on site, and what strategy there is going to be for it’s disposal, this will involve labelling, logistics, introduction of lean systems for waste, and ownership of this area for the business. You will be disposing of category 1-4 waste acidic, basic, chlorinated and non chlorinated waste, as well as some waste of value for companies who again you’ll coordinate with for example platinum containing waste.
We are seeking a candidate with a degree in Chemistry or equivalent, as well as experience of waste management working for ideally another company engaged in this activity. Perhaps having worked at a transfer station or treatment area.
You will have a valid fork lift truck licence ideally, though the client can train on this. We are seeking someone who can introduce new lean systems of working into the business, and someone who can take ownership of this area, making it work as well as it can for the benefit of all.
This role will give the occupier several opportunities to really improve what our clients doing in waste management activities and have potential for a significant impact and progression.
