We are working with a multinational company in the recruitment for a Senior Director of Toxicology and Pathology.
This is a high-impact leadership role which will work on improving global health and bringing life-changing medicines to market.
You will join the Site Leadership Team, taking the helm of a multi-disciplinary function of over 70 professionals. This is a role for a strategic thinker who can bridge the gap between complex science and commercial excellence.
What you’ll do:
As Senior Director, you will be the scientific and strategic figurehead for the Toxicology and Pathology divisions. You will lead a team of experienced managers across disciplines including General Toxicology, Safety Pharmacology, Inhalation, DART, and In Vitro Toxicology. Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Leadership: Developing and implementing the tactical and long-range plans for the division, ensuring alignment with global corporate objectives.
Scientific Standard-Setting: Establishing the scientific direction for the site, representing the company at international meetings, and liaising with global peers across the broader company network.
Operational Management: Serving as a key member of the Edinburgh Leadership Team, overseeing recruitment, expenditure, and sales plans, while ensuring consistent decision-making across the site.
Client Advocacy: Acting as a high-level point of contact for clients, ensuring "Customer Care" is the top priority and that all safety assessment studies meet the highest quality standards.
People Development: Mentoring and managing a team of Directors and Managers, fostering a motivated culture where staff produce high-quality work and achieve genuine job satisfaction.
Commercial Oversight: Collaborating with the Finance Director to manage departmental budgets and monitor performance against challenging yet realistic targets.
Your background:
We are looking for an expert in the field with a track record of leading large, complex teams within a highly regulated environment.
Educational Foundation: A graduate with a higher degree (MSc/PhD) in a relevant discipline. Higher qualifications or certifications in Toxicology or Pathology are highly desirable.
Industry Expertise: Significant experience in regulatory safety assessment within the pharmaceutical or agrochemical sectors. Previous experience in a CRO or Biotech environment is strongly preferred.
Leadership Track Record: Demonstrable experience in line management, specifically managing other managers and leading matrix functions across different scientific disciplines.
Commercial Acumen: A proven ability to network with stakeholders, influence others, and understand the commercial drivers of the safety assessment industry.
Visionary Mindset: The independence of thought required to suggest fresh approaches and drive continuous improvement at both a local and global level.
