A consultancy firm operating in the nuclear and high-hazard sectors is looking to expand its specialist Risk and Safety team. They are seeking a Principal Nuclear Safety Assessor to lead the delivery of complex safety projects and provide technical direction across a range of high-profile nuclear assignments.

 

This is a permanent opportunity with flexible working arrangements, ideal for experienced professionals who thrive in both technical and leadership roles and want to contribute to nationally significant safety and infrastructure work.

 

As a Principal Nuclear Safety Assessor, you’ll be responsible for delivering and overseeing the production of safety case documentation, guiding junior team members, and maintaining strong client relationships. You’ll work closely with engineers and safety specialists in areas such as Human Factors, Fire Safety, Radiological Shielding, and Criticality.

 

What you’ll do:

 

Lead hazard identification workshops (e.g. HAZOP).Develop structured safety case arguments using Claims/Arguments/Evidence (C/A/E) techniques.Produce and manage safety documentation across all stages of the plant lifecycle.Liaise with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary safety teams to develop robust and coherent safety cases.Mentor and guide junior consultants and project teams.Identify and contribute to business development opportunities.Support regulatory interactions and client engagement activities.

 

Your Background:

 

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced nuclear safety professional with a strong technical foundation and the ability to lead complex safety assessments.

 

Extensive experience in nuclear safety case development and assessment techniques (DBA, LOPA, PSA, ALARP, fault and consequence analysis).A relevant degree (e.g. Physics, Mechanical/Chemical/Control/Electrical Engineering).In-depth knowledge of UK nuclear safety regulations and industry standards.Proven leadership and mentoring experience.Strong interpersonal, client-facing, and written communication skills.Eligibility for security clearance due to the nature of the work.
