Permanent role


We are working with a client operating in the Biotechnology / Synthetic Biology field and seeking an Analytical Chemist to operate their downstream activities. They are engaged in production of a chemical product via novel biotechnology means.


They are in a position to significantly grow their business, enabling technology scale up and the application of the technology to molecules of interest in collaboration with a number of production companies, all activities in which the applicant will play a key role.

What you’ll do


You will be responsible for fermentation analytics, developing downstream processing and enhancing performance of the products. This will mainly involve purification, method development and validation. You will be working closely with other teams in fermentation and formulation and together ensuring the processes provides products with a range of properties relevant to several industries.


There will be several opportunities to collaborate with external laboratories and universities to develop analytical processes in-house and increase throughput. There will be some travel mainly to conferences and other sites mainly in the UK and Europe.


Your background


We are seeking a self-motivated, teamwork orientated individual with a can-do approach. You will be flexible for the needs of the team and be happy to get involved in areas sometimes outside of your immediate job remit. Our client has a strong team which gets things done.


Your background will include expertise in several analytical techniques including HPLC, MS, GC and FTIR. You will be experienced in Quality Control, and other areas of bench work namely titrations and solvent extractions. You will be experienced in writing Standard Operating Processes (SOP). While we envisage an experienced individual coming into this role, all of this will be part of your working life in a growing team.


You will have experience of industrial separation processes, at laboratory and ideally pilot or industrial scale. You will be someone keen to find solutions, able to quickly develop process understanding and proactive in ensuring testing work is completed accurately and efficiently.


Previous experience of Method Development and Validation is essential.


Experience of fermentation, bioproducts and formulation are desirable.
