Sales and Business Development – Chemistry and Life Sciences

We’re working with a life sciences and chemical client who are seeking commercially driven Business Development Executive to join their growing team in Manchester.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual with experience or ambition to work in sales and business development. The markets our client covers are traditionally chemical with a lot of growth potential in life sciences (buffers, culture media, proteins, antibiotics, antibodies, cell biology kits) and this area is where you will primarily focus, applying a strong existing brand onto a new market.
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will play a key role in driving sales performance and market presence by building strong relationships and identifying new business opportunities. During the first 3 months this role will begin onsite before moving into a highly mobile role where the majority of your time will be at conferences, meeting customers, and developing network. The market you will cover will be mainly UK wide with European customers also.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities in life sciences (mainly) and chemical sectors
- Developing and executing strategies to acquire new clients, grow and expand key accounts
- Breaking down information and interpreting requirements of clients, being able to present detail in terms of the unique ‘key qualities’ to promote complex products
- Managing your sales pipeline using CRM systems for efficient tracking and follow-up
- Leading client meetings to understand requirements and present tailored solutions
- Preparing and delivering compelling sales presentations and proposal
- Applying a consultative, solution-based approach to selling
- Engaging with new or warm leads through calls, visits, and ongoing contact
- Attending conferences, exhibitions, and client site visits (UK and international)
Your Background
We are looking for someone who is proactive, analytical, and customer-focused, with the ability to convert opportunities into results.
Essential criteria:
- Experience or demonstrable interest in B2B/B2C sales, ideally in life sciences, chemicals, or a related industry
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of market trends
- Ability to manage and report on a sales pipeline using CRM softwareExcellent problem-solving skills and a results-driven mindset
- Adaptability and a willingness to stay informed on industry developments
- Confident working independently and within cross-functional teams
Desirable:
Degree in life sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, pharmacology), chemistry, business, or a related fieldAdditional European language skills to support international growth
